Founded in 1997, the San Miguel School is an independent Catholic middle school conducted by the De La Salle Christian Brothers for young men in Camden, New Jersey. Its mission is to provide an alternative educational setting in which students can develop their intellectual, spiritual and social potential to enable them to succeed at further levels of education. This is achieved through its academic, experiential and religious education program which will develop the necessary skills to become organized, disciplined, life-long learners and contributors to their community. The school day at San Miguel is extended in order to enable students the opportunity to improve their study skills and work on assignments. The school is fortunate to have many volunteers who offer a few hours to help tutor the students. These volunteer tutors come from such places as West Philadelphia Catholic High School and La Salle University. |

| The school is sponsored and conducted by the De LaSalle Christian Brothers and their associates. The Brothers were founded in 1680 in Reims, France by St. John Baptist De LaSalle, Patron of all Teachers, to provide a Christian education for children of the poor and working class who had little or no educational opportunities available to them.
For over three hundred years throughout the world, and over one hundred and fifty years in the United States, the Brothers have conducted schools at all levels to provide educational opportunities for those who have few options available to them. |
